Holder of post-doctoral degree in art sciences; graduate of the master’s programme at the Institute of Musicology (1997), University of Warsaw, doctoral programme at the Faculty of History, University of Warsaw (2003), post-graduate programme in dance theory at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music (2005), and post-graduate programme in management for artists and cultural operators at the Faculty of Management, University of Warsaw (2006).

In 2004–2005 he broadened his knowledge and honed his skills during the Choreology Workshop at the Institute of Choreology in Poznań. In 1997–2002 doctoral student, 2003–2004 assistant lecturer and since 2005 assistant professor at the Institute of Musicology, University of Warsaw. Since 2003 he has been a guest lecturer at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music (formerly Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music). As a guest lecturer he also worked at the Stanisław Staszic School in Kielce (2007–2009), Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz (2010), Academy of Humanities and Economics in Łódź (2011–2015) and Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice (2018–19). Initiator and leader of the Warsaw Gamelan Group (2001–2006) and Post-Graduate Ethnomusicology Programme (since 2009).

His research interests have included transmission of musical tradition in the Podhale region, music and dance traditions of the Polish community in the Vilnius and Zhytomyr regions, and of national minorities in Poland, musical traditions of Bali and Upper Lusatia, transformations of the concept and form of national dance in Poland, traditional dance culture of the Podkarpacie region. In addition, he has carried out field research in Podlasie, Mazovia, Lower Silesia and former State of Muszyna. Author of three books and seventy articles and chapters in scholarly publications. Member of the International Council for Traditional Music, European Seminar in Ethnomusicology, Musicological Section of the Polish Composers’ Union (2011–15 Section secretary, 2015–17 secretary general of the PCU), Polish Choreology Forum (co-founder, 2011–14 deputy president, 2014-17 president), Polish Ethnomusicological Seminar (initiator, 2012–16 president, 2016–19 deputy president) as well as Polish Section of the Conseil International des Organisations de Festivals de Folklore et d’Art Traditionnels (since 2004 member of the Expert Council). He is also a member of the Dance Programming Board at the Institute of Music and Dance. Winner of the 2006 and 2017 KLIO Award, 2007 Revered Professor Hieronim Feicht Prize and 2016 Award for the best written paper in Polish music history. His awards also include the Bronze Cross of Merit and honorary badge For Services to Polish Culture.
