The Library of the Institute of Musicology houses books on musicological topics (history of musical culture, theoretical and analytical studies of classical, folk and popular music) and, to a limited extent, on topics from related disciplines – over 17,000 items in total. The collection also contains musicological journals (about 350 Polish and foreign periodicals) as well as musical printed material need for pedagogical and scholarly purposes (over 17,000 items). In addition, the library houses a part of the collection of printed music from the (now defunct) Institute of Church Music in Wrocław, on deposit from the University of Warsaw Library (available on site).

An autonomous part of the collections of the Institute of Musicology is the audio library with sound and audiovisual recordings of classical and popular music – more than 3,000 compact discs, nearly 5,000 gramophone records – and ethnographic music (about 500 recordings), DVDs with recordings of operas, ballets and musical films (150 items).

The reading rooms has 12 places for readers and 3 stations for listening to CDs and DVDs. In addition, there are 3 computer workstations with internet access as well as access to a wide selection of electronic journals and databases to which the University of Warsaw subscribes.

The collections of the Library and Audio Library of the Institute of Musicology can be found in the joint catalogue of the University of Warsaw Library and faculty libraries. We recommend the use of the location filter (Institute of Musicology).

The Library website features a list of bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral theses (with numbers) written in the Institute of Musicology.
