dr Mariusz Gradowski
Musicologists and culture scholar, graduate of the Institute of Polish Culture, University of Warsaw (2004, “Humans, transcendence and art of sounds. An attempt at anthropology of music”, supervisor: Prof. dr hab. Leszek Kolankiewicz) and the Institute of Musicology, University of Warsaw (2006, “The oeuvre of The Doors”, supervisor: Prof. dr hab. Sławomira Żerańska-Kominek). In 2015 he defended his doctoral thesis entitled “Styles and genres of Polish youth music in 1957–1973” (supervisor: Prof. dr hab. Sławomira Żerańska-Kominek).
He studied musicology at the University of Copenhagen (2003/2004). In 2005 he began working at the Systematic Musicology Unit, Institute of Musicology, University of Warsaw, as assistant lecturer, and since 2015 he has been working there as assistant professor.
He is interested in the anthropology of music as well as broadly defined popular music (particularly the work of Czesław Niemen). He conducts classes devoted to rock music, film music and jazz as well as music criticism and music in the media.
In addition to conducting research, he also popularises jazz and film music on the Polish Radio (programmes like “Muzyka w kadrze” [Music on screen] and “Śpiewnik jazzowy” [Jazz songbook]).
