In 1967–1972 she studied at the Institute of Musicology, University of Warsaw. In 1985 she obtained there her doctoral degree and in 1998 – post-doctoral degree. She began working at the Institute of Musicology, University of Warsaw, in 1985 as an assistant professor; in 1999 she was made University of Warsaw associate professor. She served as deputy director of the Institute of Musicology, University of Warsaw, in 1997–98, and deputy dean of the Faculty of History, University of Warsaw – for student affairs in 1999–2002 and for finances in 2002–2005. Since 2008 she has again been serving as deputy dean for student affairs at the Faculty of History. In 2005–2008 member of the Senate Committee for Human Resources, and since 2004 head of the General History of Music Unit at the Institute of Musicology, University of Warsaw.
She has participated in various studies in Polish, Italian and German archives and libraries, and has attended numerous national and international conferences (in Italy, Germany, France, Croatia, Slovenia, Czechia, England). Her books on music at the royal court in Warsaw won her the KLIO Award, 1st class (1995, 1997) and the award of Division I of the Polish Academy of Sciences (1996). She collaborated with the European Science Foundation on the project “Musical Life in Europe 1600–1900. Circulation, Institutions, Representation” (“Italian Opera in Central Europe” group), takes part in the research project “European Network for Baroque Cultural Heritage”, organised by the European Commission through the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency. Member of the Polish Composers’ Union, Polish Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies and Johann Adolf Hasse Gesellschaft, Munich.
Her research interests focus on the history of music in the Baroque and Classical periods, particularly the musical culture of the Polish royal court and magnates’ courts in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
