prof. dr hab. Iwona Lindstedt

She completed her studies at the Institute of Musicology, University of Warsaw, in 1994. In 1998 she obtained a doctoral degree on the basis of the thesis “Dodecaphony and serialism in the oeuvres of twentieth-century Polish composers”, written under the supervision of Prof. dr hab. Maciej Gołąb. She obtained her post-doctoral degree on the basis of the Sonotistics in the Works of Twentieth Century Polish Composers (Faculty of History, University of Warsaw, 2011). Her most recent publications include a monograph entitled “Piszę tylko muzykę” .Kazimierz Serocki (Kraków 2020) as well as a selection of the composer’s lectures and interviews (Kraków 2022). In 1998 she held a scholarship from the Foundation for Polish Science. Winner of the Reverend Professor Hieronim Feicht Prize awarded by the Polish Composers’ Union (2001) and the PCU’s Honorary Prize (2014).

Her research interests relate primarily to the history, theory and aesthetics of twentieth- and twenty-first-century music, especially that of Polish composers. In addition, she specialises in the methodology and analysis of musical works. She also popularises musical knowledge: since 2012 she has been involved in on-line projects like musical collections (Lutosławski, Penderecki, Górecki, Panufnik, Kilar) on ninateka.pl, websites like musicinmovement.eu or mapofcomposers.pl.

Member of the Board of the Polish Composers’ Union and deputy chair of the Musicological Section. Since 2015 she has served as deputy president of the Polish Society of Musical Analysis. Since 2016 she has been the editor-in-chief of Polski Rocznik Muzykologiczny, and since 2019 a member of the Advisory Board of the book series Musical Cultures of the Twentieth Century (Routledge).
